With the rise of lithium batteries<\/a> and high output alternators<\/a> On-board systems are becoming increasingly powerful, but also more susceptible to voltage spikes. A sudden interruption, for example by a BMS intervening or a battery switch being turned off, can cause a so-called load dump. In such a situation, the voltage can rise rapidly and cause serious damage to the alternator and other on-board electronics in a fraction of a second.<\/p>
