Engine management systems
The engine is the beating heart of your boat. Whether you are making a short day trip or a long crossing, you want everything to run smoothly and to know when something goes wrong.
You used to look at separate gauges for that: revs, oil temperature, pressure, tank levels... often scattered around the dashboard, sometimes a bit hard to read, and often not connected to the rest of your navigation system.
These days, it can be done smarter!
With an engine management system, you bring all that data together in your on-board network. You see them not only on your plotter or instrument displays, but also simply on your tablet or phone. Quark-Elec offers a range of handy solutions for this, which translate analogue or digital engine information to NMEA 2000 and sometimes even make it available via WiFi.
Why motor management?
A good system prevents surprises on the road. Continuous monitoring of engine information gives you quicker insight into trends: is the temperature rising slowly, or is the oil pressure dropping during load? You can also set alerts, so you don't notice something is wrong only when it is too late.
An additional advantage is that the data becomes part of your entire on-board network. You can combine engine information with navigation data, analyse fuel consumption or view everything wirelessly in the cockpit on your tablet.
✅ All important dates at a glance
✅ Quick insight into trends
✅ Set alerts
✅ Insight into fuel consumption, etc.
✅ Everything wirelessly to your tablet or smartphone
The Quark-Elec solutions
A037 - Engine Data Monitor & NMEA 2000 Converter
The A037 is perhaps Quark-Elec's most versatile engine management device. It can convert analogue signals such as temperature, pressure and tank levels, and pulses such as RPM to NMEA 2000 messages. It also has a built-in web server with its own dashboard display. Connect your phone or laptop to the A037's WiFi signal and you will instantly see your engine data in a clear screen, without any additional apps or software.
The A037 features two alarm outputs (relays) that you can link, for example, to a buzzer or lamp for critical alerts. Configuration is easy via USB or WiFi.
The A037 is ideal for those who really want a complete picture of their engine, directly integrated into the NMEA 2000 network and with a convenient web dashboard for mobile devices.
⚠️ Note: analogue resistance measurements, such as tank levels and certain sensors, cannot be split. That means you have to route that input either to the A037 or to your original meter, but not both at the same time.
A037M - Compact Engine Data Monitor
The A037M is the smaller version of the A037. It has fewer inputs and functionalities, but is therefore cheaper and takes up less space. Perfect for smaller engine configurations where you only want to monitor the basics.
JS01 - J1939 to NMEA 2000 gateway
Many modern engines, especially heavier or commercial models, work with the J1939 protocol. Quark-Elec's JS01 translates that information to NMEA 2000, so you can display everything on your existing displays or plotter.
The JS01 can display data such as RPM, operating temperature, oil status and voltage. It is read-only on the J1939 side and so cannot interfere with anything in the engine control system.
Thanks to opto-isolation, there is electrical separation between the motor network and the NMEA 2000 network, increasing safety and reliability.
For anyone with an engine that supports J1939, this is the simplest and safest way to make the data part of your NMEA 2000 backbone.
IS10 - NMEA 2000 Digital Touchscreen Meter
The Quark-Elec IS10 is an elegant and modern touchscreen display for NMEA 2000 networks. The clear graphical interface presents engine data, tank levels, battery status, speed and more in a clear and user-friendly way.
The intuitive touchscreen operation makes switching between data fields easy and quick. Thanks to its compact design, the IS10 is easy to fit on almost any dashboard. The price is also remarkably attractive compared to other NMEA 2000 displays, while the quality and readability are excellent.
The IS10 perfectly complements the A037 and JS01 modules. All data entering the NMEA 2000 network via these devices can be displayed directly and clearly on the IS10.
Choice guide for engine management systems
| Situation | Featured product | Comments |
|---|---|---|
| Engine with J1939 interface (modern diesel/generator) | JS01 | Converts J1939 data (RPM, temp, oil, voltage) to NMEA 2000. Read-only, safe for motor control. |
| Motor with analogue sensors (temperature, pressure, tank, rpm) | A037 | Very complete: converts analogue signals to NMEA 2000, has its own web dashboard via built-in web server. ⚠️ Analogue resistance measurements not splittable. |
| Motor with analogue sensors but limited space / simpler setup | A037M | More compact version of the A037, fewer inputs, cheaper and smaller size. |
| Clear display for NMEA 2000 engine and boat data | IS10 | Touchscreen with user-friendly graphical interface, clearly readable and attractively priced. |
All on one screen
One of the big advantages of these systems is that you no longer have to rely on separate, sometimes poorly readable or non-working meters.
The A037 even offers its own web dashboard directly, and via WiFi you can also make data visible in apps such as NMEAremote or WilhelmSK.
With the IS10, you also have an attractive built-in touchscreen that allows you to read all information centrally. So you can turn a tablet or display into a full engine and navigation screen - and of course also via NMEA 2000 on your chartplotter.
With a Quark-Elec engine management system, you have all engine data clearly laid out in your NMEA 2000 network.
The A037 offers complete monitoring with its own web dashboard, the JS01 is the safe choice for J1939 engines, the A037M is ideal as a compact solution and the IS10 adds a beautiful, user-friendly display at a competitive price. So you always have a grip on your bike - simple, reliable and instantly visible on your plotter, tablet or touchscreen display.
