Protect your alternator from voltage spikes and sudden interruptions

The ARCO Zeus Alternator Shield is specially developed to protect high-output alternators from damaging voltage spikes. These can occur, for example, with a sudden battery disconnection, such as with a BMS shutdown of lithium batteries or the accidental switching off of a master switch. Such spikes can damage your alternator's diodes in one go.

The Shield limits voltage and safely dissipates excess energy to ground. This extends the life of your alternator and prevents costly damage.

Installation instructions
The ring terminals for the Shield must be placed on top of the existing connections on the alternator, not underneath the battery cables.

  1. Connect the ring terminal of the red and black wire to the positive terminal of the alternator.
  2. Connect the ring terminal of the yellow and black wire to the earth terminal of the alternator
  3. If the LED lights up green, then the Shield is correctly connected and active
  4. If the LED flashes red, the Shield is no longer protected and must be replaced.

Important to know
In systems where voltage information is solely received via CAN bus, the Shield cannot fully protect the alternator in the event of a break in the positive or negative wiring. In combination with an ARCO Zeus Bluetooth regulator, this can be resolved by activating voltage measurement on the battery (“Battery Voltage Sense Active”).

The Shield complies with the ISO 16750-2 load dump specification. In the event of extreme voltage spikes, every protective component can eventually fail. If the Shield's limit is exceeded, the LED will turn red and it will need to be replaced. In extreme situations, such as a lightning strike, the Shield may be damaged without the LED turning red; in this case, it must also be replaced.
