The WS500 is an alternator regulator that can use current, voltage and temperature to enable the most accurate and effective charging for 12V, 24V and 48V battery systems. Configuration options, including for voltages in between, make it the perfect solution for charging new-generation lead-acid batteries or LiFePO4 lithium-ion batteries.
The WS500 is fully compatible with Victron and can communicate directly with the Cerbo GX via CAN-bus!
Configuration is done via easy-to-use DIP switches on the device or by connecting to a PC, allowing more than 100 user settings.
The WS500 can be connected to a shunt to monitor the alternator charging current. This allows the controller to control charging based on a combination of the voltage and charging current delivered to the batteries by the alternator. Moreover, the WS500 can also monitor the temperature of the alternator and the battery and adjust the charging rate to ensure optimal safety of the alternator and the batteries at maximum charge. When connected to a BMS system, the WS500 can receive critical voltage, current and temperature data via the CAN J1939 path, reducing the need for external sensor connections.
The controller's automatic voltage detection identifies the system voltage and automatically adjusts charging to support 12V, 24V and 48V profiles. Default profiles for eight battery types can be configured on the controller using the DIP switches. Selectable profiles include programmes for standard and deep-cycle lead-acid batteries, standard and AGM batteries, gel, combat lithium batteries and general LiFePO4 batteries. Two profiles allow flexible customisation of profiles with a PC using the WS500 configuration tool or a terminal programme such as Putty. Support for non-ordinary battery voltages (e.g. 32V) can also be configured in the same way.
The WS500 can be used with alternators of different polarity by selecting the appropriate N-type or P-type harness. The harnesses are fitted with high-quality Ampseal connectors and feature all connections for basic operation and dedicated connecting wires for voltage and current measurement.
Note: without wiring harness, temperature sensor and Ve.CAN adapter these should be ordered separately.
