Argo FET charge current dividers are designed to charge several battery sets simultaneously with one alternator or battery charger. During discharge, the battery sets are separated from each other by the Argo FET. For example, when the accessory battery is discharged, the starter battery will remain fully charged.
The main advantage of FET (Field Effect Transistor) charge current dividers is the very low voltage drop: less than 0.02 Volt at low current and 0.1 Volt at maximum current. The output voltage of the alternator does not need to be increased when an Argo FET charge current distributor is used.
Alternator 'energise' connection some alternators start charging only if voltage is present on the B+ connection. When the alternator is connected directly to a battery, there will be voltage on the B+ connection. However, a diode or FET charge current distributor isolates the batteries from the alternator so it will not start. The new Argo FET charge current distributors have a separate current-limited 'Energize' connection that allows voltage to be applied to the B+ connection when the engine's ignition switch is turned to the ignition position.
